Museo Sa Bassa Blanca - Fundacion Yannick and Ben Jakober
Alcudia
Art, nature and architecture coexist harmoniously in a museum designed to awaken all your senses.
The outstanding architectural detail of the Sa Bassa Blanca Museum (msbb) is, without a doubt, the building designed by Hassan Fathy, a Hispano-Moorish construction called “ribat” (fortified building) that welcomes visitors with its majestic vaults and white castellated walls.
msbb has 4 exhibition spaces: The old underground water tank was transformed into an exhibition space to house the “Nins” collection: children portraits from the 16th to the 19th centuries; SOKRATES space, a “Wunderkammer” in which it is possible to enjoy a collection of works from all around the world and different historical moments. In a magnificent park of monumental sculptures, outstanding animals of the great civilizations of the past are represented; and the Hassan Fathy building, a space dedicated to temporary exhibitions.
As a clear reflection of the passion for combining art and nature, the museum harbors also a rose garden, designed by Yannick Vu, which has more than a hundred varieties of old and English roses. It is conceived as a “Hortus Conclusus” or medieval garden, surrounded by walls. It is a space that combines garden and aromatic plants.
